This Month vs. Month to Date Filters

Edited

Based on valuable user feedback, we've introduced two distinct ways to track your progress against your monthly budget: "This Month" and "Month to Date."

This Month

The "This Month" filter provides a straightforward comparison between your total budget for the month and your actual spending up to today's date. For instance, if you've set a budget of $2000 for groceries this month, the Overview Screen will display this total budgeted amount. If you've spent $1750 so far, it will show $1750 as your actual spending against the $2000 budget. This feature allows you to quickly see if you're under budget, helping you make informed financial decisions. In this example, I know that currently I'm under-budget on groceries as there's still $250 left to spend this month.

Month to Date

The "Month to Date" filter offers a pro-rata budget based on the current date, giving you a more nuanced view of your spending. For example, if today is the 21st of the month, it will calculate an average budget figure of approximately $1,354.84 for groceries, reflecting what you should ideally have spent -at a maximum - by this point in the month. This option is particularly useful for tracking your progress and adjusting your spending habits as needed.

In this scenario, if you notice that you've already spent more than three-quarters of your monthly budget, it serves as a gentle reminder to be more mindful of your grocery expenses for the remainder of the month. By keeping an eye on your spending, you can ensure that you stay within your overall budget.

We hope these features help you manage your finances with greater ease and confidence. Happy budgeting!
