Importing bank statements
Welcome to Billroo! If you prefer not to connect your bank account directly or if your bank doesn't support connections, you can easily upload your bank statements manually. This guide will walk you through the process of importing your transactions into Billroo, ensuring you can take full advantage of our budgeting tools.
Importing Your Bank Statements
Currently, Billroo only accepts CSV formats for imports. You can upload your CSV file through our website or desktop version, as the mobile app doesn’t support uploads just yet. Once you’ve imported your transactions, you’ll gain access to all our budgeting tools, auto-categorization, tagging, and spending insights!
Creating a CSV File
If you can’t export your transactions in a CSV format, don’t worry! You can create your statement file using a spreadsheet program such as Excel or Google Sheets, or you can use our attached template.
After creating your file, simply export it as a CSV and import it into Billroo. Please note that PDF bank statements cannot be imported into Billroo. If you have access to online banking, look for the option to export your transactions, which is usually available when viewing the transactions as a list.
Alternatively, you can search online for a third-party conversion service to convert your PDF statement into a compatible format.
Steps to Upload Your Transactions
After downloading your CSV file from your bank account, follow these simple steps to upload the transactions to your Billroo account:
Log in to the website using the same email address that you used to log in on the app.
Click on Transactions.
Select Import or Add Transactions.
Select Upload CSV.
Drag or attach the CSV file from your bank.
You will then be taken to a screen where you can ensure that the fields are mapping correctly and that the date format is accurate. A preview of your data will also be displayed.
Date Formats
It’s important to ensure that the date in your CSV file is in one of the following formats:
DD/MM/YYYY
DD-MM-YYYY
YYYY-MM-DD
D-MMM-YYYY
D MMM YYYY
D MMMM YYYY
MM/DD/YYYY
MM-DD-YYYY
MMM D, YYYY
If your date format isn't included in the list, please fill out this form to request your format to be added.
Amount / Number Format
Make sure that your amount is entered as a number only. For example, use 50 instead of (50). If the format is incorrect, you may encounter an error, and the import will not be successful.
