Medicare / Health Refund Process

Edited

Here's how to handle it:

Step 1: Categorise the original transaction
When you pay for something like a doctor’s visit, Billroo will automatically categorise it, usually under Health.

Step 2: Categorise the reimbursement
When you receive a Medicare rebate, it will appear as a positive transaction in your bank account. To ensure your spending is accurately reflected, simply categorise this rebate under the same category (e.g. Health).

✅ That’s it—no further action is needed.

Example:

Let’s say you:

  • Spend $120 at the dentist

  • Later, receive a $50 rebate from Medicare

In Billroo, you’ll see:

  • -$120 under Health (Dentist visit)

  • +$50 under Health (Medicare Rebate)

The result: A net spend of -$70 in the Health category, which reflects your actual cost after reimbursement.
