How to Record Savings Without Inflating Your Leftover Total

Edited

The discrepancy occurs because your savings have been entered as a positive transaction instead of a negative transaction.

For example:

  • Using a negative transaction will correctly reduce the leftover total.

  • Using a positive transaction will inflate the leftover total.

To ensure accuracy, always record savings transfers as negative transactions and categorise them correctly. This way, your Total Leftover will accurately reflect the true amount remaining after income, expenses, savings, investments, and debt payments are all accounted for — while still letting you track your savings separately.
